If you have been a long time regular of my blog you know that my favorite movie of all time is National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. My number one rule is I can't watch it til December 1st. I love the movie so much that I watch it at least 15 times throughout December. This way I save my relationship with my girlfriend, otherwise I would watch it more. I wore out my VHS tape of it and the best thing that could ever happen was Jen (my girlfriend) bought me the DVD. (god bless her) Hope you enjoy the clip. It also contains my favorite Christmas song as well from Ray Charles. Whats your favorite movie during Christmas time?
Today is Wednesday that means Thai Truck for Lunch in Meguro. I received some bad news from my company yesterday, Nokia has decided to close the Nokia Japan office. Ontop of that the Mountain Dew has also been removed from the 100 Yen vending machine near the office. It's just as well I suppose since I don't know how much longer I'll be coming to the office. (If you know of any job openings, I'd appreciate if you let me know via Vox private message.)
Without further delay here are this week's Thai Truck photos (they maybe one of the last Thai Truck photo sets).
Photos taken with the Nokia N97.
It was 15 years ago today that Donkey Kong Country was released on the SNES.
And with it, brought forth this absurd notion that Better Graphics = Better Game.
Eye candy doesn't hurt, but this game was great because it was fun. Gameplay and control were spot-on, and had some very cool level design and environments (snow, swimming & cave levels FTW). It was definitely the kind of game that was easy to get lost in for a few hours at a time, and had plenty of varied & challenging (yet not too challenging) levels to do just that.
DKC shares an important place in what became a small flood of top-shelf games in the Fall of '94 that included Final Fantasy "3" (6), Illusion of Gaia, Earthworm Jim, Sonic & Knuckles (though IMO Sonic 3 was as good as the series ever got), Sega's 32X (okay maybe not all were 'top-shelf', but I have fond memories of playing Doom listening to Green Day's 'Dookie' album, so I'll include it), Killer Instinct in the arcade, the Sega Saturn & Sony Playstation in Japan, among others I'm sure.
Ah memories.
Damn I feel old now. :)
This is a little gallows humor that I whipped up and sent to Scott Kurtz and my friends at Penny Arcade when we all knew that Aeofel was dead, but couldn't tell anyone else in the world.
