After a brief two day hiatus I've returned to the world of the internet and of couse, blogging. And that's what I'd like to focus on today, blogging. You know? Blogging is the kind of thing that has no place in history. It's a recent invention, only about 12 years or so. Early Bloggers such as LJ founder Brad Fitzpatrick stareted up the popular Live Journal service, which is ten million users strong and growing still. I have several friends who use LJ as there blog of choice and it's a pretty flexible platform with varying levels of service (Free, Plus, Premium) But more on that later
I personally started to blog back in 2004. I used the only service I knew of at the time-MSN Spaces (now Live Spaces) I didn
't
know any better at the time ok? I ddn't realease there where much more powerful and better blogging engines out there. I used MSN Spaces from, probably mid 2004 to this summer when I decided I'd had enough. I switched over to Blogger where I blogged there for about a month and a half (
Link here). Then I heard about this thing called Vox through
Inside the Net which is hosted by
AmberMac and
Leo Laporte. And it sounded like this
really cool service that I would like to try out. I was having issues with Blogger that day anyway, and with Firefox in general (It was a stupid little box I unchecked that morning.) so I Googled Vox Invites (I'd emailed in for one a little earlier.) and I scavenged message boards every where for an invite to Vox. I finally got an invite from
rutty (for which I am very grateful.) So here I am now, after almost 2 1/2 years of bloggging, on Vox. But for those of who don't know where to start, what should we use? Well my first recommend Vox, however the only downside to that is, currently, it's invite only. Another very cool service is LJ, which was created by Brad Fitzpatrick and is now owned by Six Apart Ltd., the same people who created Vox. For a completly free, expandable platform, I recommend Blogger. You need some knowledge of HTML to do links and such, but once you master that you can do so many cool things with Blogger. You can add video to your entries via YouTube and the like as well as putting in icons and adding links into the blog itself. Here is a warning for perspective bloggers: If your going to blog, be warned, it's not meant to be a private journal. You can have certain settings where no one can see it, if you want privacy, I suggest, just writing text into a word processor and dropping it onto a flash drive and hiding it somehwere. Blogging in a way to express yourself. And hey, if you strike a cord with many people you could end up to be a famous blogger like
Robert Scoble or dare I say,
John C. DvorakIf you would like an invite
