You know the figure of speech about someone "getting up your Soapbox?" well Microsoft is doing just that. They've launched there Video Service called "Soapbox".It's there competitor to YouTube. As Boredsvunut put it "Bwahahahahahahahahhahahaha
hahaha". And I have to agree. When you consider the fact that Microsoft is not exactly what you would call the greatest company to talk about consumer relations. oy, Microsoft, what do you have to say about the "Windows Genuine Advantage"? And since when is Microsoft "cool"? You don't see the almighty Bill Gates getting a tonne of press when he makes a keynote. See the thing with Microsoft is, it's an outcast by choice. It created the horribly evil Internet
Explorer Expoder as well as other annoyances such as the the wait-four-minutes-and-then-ask-to-restart-your-computer-to-update it Windows Update. I could go on and for about 30 minute
s, but I'll spare you that torture. But my point is this, Soapbox, for right now, will not compete with YouTube. When you consider the fact that YouTube is serving up
at least 100 million video's a day, Soapbox has some catching up to do. And even if people become unhappy with YouTube, I bet you any money, that before they go to this "Soapbox" service they'll go to Google Video or some other Web 2.0 service. The fact is, many users have become disillusioned with Microsoft with there policies of putting it business interests first instead of the users. While shareholders and money do matter, you don't want to piss off your users. If you do, they won't buy the next version of your product. And then you'll be penniless because no one is buying your stuff. Then none of your stock holders or money will matter.
In Short, YouTube, unless they start to go in the hole financially
they'll stay around for a long time to come.
