When Will Radio Die?

Comments

I agree that radio sucks- all they are is an outlet for the RIAA to force-feed us the 'latest and greatest' crap they can mass-produce. In my opinion, there hasn't been anything good on the radio to listen to in about 2 years- spring 2005 was great for music IMO, but it's been a crapshoot ever since.
I almost never listen to the radio now- and when I do, it's usually something non-mainstream like the University stations that play things that would make music executives want to crash their Porsches. There is actually a new rock station here in Calgary (X 92.9) that plays a lot of great stuff- older stuff, stuff that people have long-since forgotten about- they even have a 'No Nickelback Guarantee'!!
I do enjoy some talk shows (Coast To Coast AM for the sci-fi geek in me), and I'll even listen to a Flames game on the radio if it isn't on TV, but that's about all. I think there is definitely still a place for traditional radio in this new modern age of media- but it HAS to change with the times, and that is where the problem has been for a while now.
Like I said, I don't mind it for talk stuff, but the music stations just suck in general.
Do you know if they have an online version of that Sci-Fi show?
If so could you send me the link?
Check out C2C's website, they do have previous shows on there- though I think it's through a subscription service. I haven't listened to the show in some time- mostly because they only air at 1:00am- but I think I may need to do a 'late night drive' in the near future to indulge (yes, I'll photoblog the trip).
Well I only listen to Radio for the news... but it seems to do pretty good at that, at least here in Australia. And radio doesn't require the time it takes you to download the show and then stick it on your MP3 player. However in terms of music, I'd have to agree, I doubt there's any going back fro the iPod age. Although I do like some rap ; - ;
[this is good]
For me, it's not the top-40 stations - I've ignored those to begin with. But it's the way the radio format has been messed up. They repeat the same songs. Over and over and over. I turn on the radio in the hopes of hearing a good mix - iTunes party shuffle is better at that. (And no commercials, on top of that.)

There is very little new worth listening to, anyway. I'm not convinced that all new music sucks entirely... but a lot of it does and I haven't heard anything that appeals to me in the last year.
