You may recall a while ago that I mentioned that one of my favorite books is the Bathroom Readers. I had a bunch of Chapters money from Christmas and my birthday, So I went down to the Chapters today and picked up the Gigantic Bathroom Reader. It's a whopping 752 pages of trivia, oddities and the fun stories. And it only cost me $14
.95! THat works out to be about a nickel a page (I think) Anyway, it's a great book and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to learn and also loves to laugh at the same time! Great bookThe second more exciting piece of news, in my mind at least is that I got a new mouse today. I go the Logitech S 510 desktop in January. I loved it-for the most part. The keyboard is great. Having ability to launch apps with the touch of the a button. The only thing that I hate about it is the mouse. It's a crappy mouse in terms of ergonomics and the fit of my hands. I have medium-large hands and and mouse is very small. Worst of all, the shape is like a hill. Your palm rests at the top and your fingers slant forward. Needless to say it's not very nice to be using for a few hours a day. So I went to Futureshop (after I went to Chapters.) and went browsing through the iMacs (surprisingly, one of them the 17" iMac, was running a build of Leopard.) anyway, I talked to one of the associates and he pointed me to the Microsoft 5000 Laser mouse, an ergonomic mouse. So I bought it. Not a bad purchase, after all, but setting this thing up was a pain. I followed the steps and it uninstalled the Setpoint software for the my Logitech stuff. This caused my keyboard to not work and I had to use the on screen keyboard to type stuff. Long story short, it now works and I like it. I'll have a more in-depth post on that in the near future. I'm off to bed. Later.
So I got Windows Vista running today. And thanks to a hack from good 'ol BitTorrent, I don't have to drop over $150 for a copy of Home Premium. But don't tell Microsoft that. I'm enjoying it so far. I mean besides the improved UI, it's the small things like the Instant Search and the improved Window Management. The Iive Tabs feature is also nice. For all the bashing I've done to Vista, I still like it. I don't expect to bumb into the DRM wall yet, as I'm not planning on playing an HD content. With all that said, there are some things that I don't like. It takes forever to both Shut Down and start up as well as the fact that certain app's don't behave well. iTunes is the major culprit here. It works well enough, but it has it's glitches. Logitech Setpoint was another sticking point, but I managed to get it to work after a while. Driver support is pretty good. Considering the disk includes over 15,000 device drivers, it'd better be! My flash drive works fine. I've yet to test my iPod though, though I think it should work fine. I'll give you guys an update in a few days.
As I promised last night, here are some pics of my recently updated workstation. Here's a pic of what it looked like this 2 weeks ago.
As you can see, there's a sad, strack contrast right there as I have a really nice case with a really crappy looking 15" CRT and a decent optical mouse and keyboard. Well things have changed around here since that photo was taken and if you look below, here is what my work/play are looks like now. As you can see, things look much better. My Samsung 941BW is an awesome moitor and I love both my new set of speakers and my new keyboard and mouse. My keyboard is sitting in my room and my sister is using my old mouse. I love my workspace now. I find that the hardest component to find when your building a system is a monitor. When I attempted to build my first system. At the time I only had about $500. That wasn't nearly enough to get my own system. I went out his summer and earned almost $1000 and spend that on my system. Only thing is, I didn't have any money left to get a monitor. I heard one of my friends had an old 15" that he had to spare. I asked if I could use it and he said I could. So for the past few months, I've been using the old 15" CRT. So I was extremly glad was when I got my 19" LCD. My advise to people running on an old, small CRT. Go to a hardware site like Newegg if you live in the US or Tierdirect or NCIX in Canada, and find a 19" LCD for under $200. It's possible. I've seen them advisertised for under $170 if your lucky. It'll make your experience so much better and save you tonne's of space. You won't regret your investment.
I'm off to bed, I'll talk to you guys when I can spare a moment this week.
With 2006 now behind us, it's time to look forward to 2007. I was at a party until about 1 in the morning when I came home and went to bed. My sister stayed until 9 this morning and then came home and she's currently sleeping. I woke up around 10:30 and it's now about 2 in the afternoon.
I forgot to tell you gu
